JOINT Press Release – WDC & BECL – 2021 World Championship – Professional Latin to take place in the Wintergardens, Blackpool – December 2021

Blackpool Entertainment Company Limited (BECL) and the World Dance Council (WDC) are delighted to announce that they have joined forces in order to assist the dance world as we  emerge from the Coronavirus Pandemic

The world renowned Blackpool Dance Festival celebrated its 94th Anniversary in 2019   and the town of Blackpool is synonymous the  world over for dance connoisseurs.

When the 2019  WDC World Championship Professional Latin concluded and Riccardo Cocchi & Yulia Zagurychenko were crowned for the 10th consecutive time, an era ended with their retirement from active competition and the race to become the next Professional World Latin Champion heated up to a frenzy!

Who would have thought that 2020 would be the first time since 1959 and the first World Championship, that the title would not be held due to the COVID.19 pandemic which has wrought havoc on so many lives, but especially the dance industry as a whole.

And it looked bleak for the 2021 title, as the organiser in China had to return the title at very late notice due to the ongoing battle of his country with COVID-19.

So it is with immense pride and anticipation, that the World Dance Council and Blackpool Entertainment Company Limited  can announce, that Blackpool will host the 2021 World Championship Professional Latin in the newly refurbished Empress Ballroom in the Winter Gardens, Blackpool , as a direct co-operation between the World Dance Council and the BECL.

As the WDC President , Mr. Donnie Burns MBE and Mr. Michael Williams, Managing Director of the Blackpool Dance Festivals  stated yesterday:

“There cannot be any more prestigious and historic venue to restart the list of Professional World Championships – post COVID, than the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
It is an honour and privilege to be able to co-operate for the good of dance worldwide in this manner”.

The event will take place as part of the “People’s World Championship”, held from 3-5 December 2021 under full WDC rules and regulations.

More information will be made available very soon !
